McCormick Ranch Recreation
For outdoor enthusiasts, Saguaro Lake is a great place to explore. The lake serves as a reservoir for nearby Salt River and is managed by Salt River Project, Tonto National Forest, the Arizona Game and Fish Department, and the Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office. Beautiful mountainous scenery can be viewed from the recreational area. Swimming is also allowed in designated areas and boating ramps are available for use as well. Fishermen will be pleased to find a variety of fish such as the walleye, largemouth bass, yellow bass, rainbow trout, channel catfish and crappie. Visitors can go to the Saguaro Lake Recreational Area for boating, fishing, camping, picnicking, and swimming.
McCormick-Stillman Railroad Park
McCormick-Stillman Railroad Park is located in Scottsdale and features a 15” gauge railroad, a railroad museum, three model railroad clubs, the Magma Arizona Railroad train, and a 7.5” gauge live steam railroad. Free train rides offered by the Maricopa Live Steamers Railroad Heritage Preservation Society happen every Sunday from noon to 5 pm except during the summer months. Other attractions and exhibits at the park include the Paradise & Pacific Railroad, which is a 15” gauge train with a route of 3,800 feet, three steam engines, three diesel engines, a coach car, trolley car, two cabooses and boxcars, and a number of gondola cars; the Charro Carousel; children’s playgrounds; the Xeriscape Arboretum; and the Gabre Brooks Machine Shop.
